Our toys are coming back

Hi, guys!

I went on a random toy hunt at my local Wal-Mart and Target.  I'll admit that I haven't really paid much attention to toys in a long time.  I mean besides Nintendo stuff.  I know that people say to keep all of your clothing and toys because they'll be popular once again.  I knew that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and My Littlest Pet Shop were making a triumphant come back.  My sister and I had these toys when we were younger, but unfortunately don't have any of them any more.

Here is what else I found on my toy hunt!

Power Morphicon 2014

Hi guys, long time no write.

My apologizes I've just been extremely busy, but enough of that.  If you've read some previous entries of this blog you know that I was an avid watcher of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers.  Every two years in Pasadena, California there is an all Power Rangers convention.  I, personally, have never been to one, I'll be stalking YouTube shortly after the convention has closed.

I must say that guest list looks amazing!  Most of Saban's early 90's creations are going to be there, Big Bad BeetleBorgs, VR Troopers, Masked Rider, and of course Power Rangers throughout the years.  I'm more excited to hear from characters that aren't as active in social media or are active in cons.  For instance; Carol Hoyt.

Austin St. John is back from the middle east and is going to be there this year, he was also in the very first Power Morphicon in 2007.  He has been doing a lot of cons since he's been back and now has a Facebook, Twitter account, and is on Instagram.  I'm thankful that he seems very humble and respectful to the fans.

Then I made a YouTube video on my channel that Yuuta Mochizuki was announced to appear a few weeks back.  He was Geki the Tyranno Ranger, in Kyouryuu Sentai Zyuranger.



On my old YouTube account I had a what you might call a 'tribute' to him,  I also put this video on my SeraMyu fan page on MySpace.  (My old YouTube has been taken down, so I'm going to try to embed the MySpace version.)as been taken down, so I'm going to try to embed the MySpace version.)  For some reason, I can't embed to videos in one post, so I'm going to put a link to my Yuuta Mochizuki tribute video.

Hiatus

Hi guys!

I know that I've been having a little hiatus with this blog.  I'm hoping that it isn't the case for much longer.  I got a couple ideas for future entries, that I'm excited for.  I'm hoping when I go to my sister's house for Thanksgiving I'm able to find some of the things that I need.  I've also been busy with college, school, and with another blog that I'm doing here on blogger.  I'll link it here http://kaelancer.blogspot.com , feel free to visit it.

I'm also very happy that "Kids of the 90's" still gets plenty of people reading it weekly.

Here's a random photo of something that I got dirt cheap a week ago.  It also came with a screen light/ magnifier, two games, and a GameCube link cable.

Animal Crossing!

I know that Animal Crossing, the original release for North America, didn't come out in the 90's, but it was pretty close.  It came out in 2001, I was still in high school.  This is probably going to be the only exception to having something in the 00's.

I got Animal Crossing:New Leaf when it came out this summer.  It's great, fun, but also very VERY addicting.   Then being a nostalgia nut that I am, I hooked up my gamecube and attempted to play.

Well, I haven't played my file in like 9 months.  My town was covered in weeds, I couldn't remember what was donated to the museum, and I just wanted to start over.  It was a hard decision because I had amazing neighbors;  Mitzi, Bob, Lucky, and Cob were my favorites. After a few seconds of thoughts I deleted the file from my memory card and started over.

I must say the New Leaf has spoiled me.  Everything takes much longer to do in the original version, such as selling things to Tom Nook, switching between tools, and getting fossils inspected.  It's still very much enjoyable to play, and very addicting.  I don't have any regrets for starting my town over.


For those who don't know what Animal Crossing is.  I'm going to give a short description of what it's about.

    You start the game in a traveling in a Train, and cat named Rover asks to sit down with you.  You don't really have the option to tell him 'no.'  He then proceeds to ask you questions.  One is what's your name, I always name my avatar FUNKIE.  Another is the name of the town that you're traveling to, my town name always changes.  Another question he asks regards if you have a place to stay and money.  It doesn't matter what you say, Rover will excuse himself to make a phone call.  After he comes back he tells you that he's talked to a friend that's willing to help your character out, Tom Nook.  When you arrive to your town, you finally get to see what your character looks like, it depends on how you answered your questions as to the hair and eye color/ shape will look like.  Now is where my memory may get a little fuzzy.  I believe Tom Nook is waiting for you when you get to the train station, he proceeds to tell you that he has some dirt cheap houses that you can live in.  There are four houses to choose from, they are all the same except for roof color.  I should also mention that they aren't really "houses"  they are more like a tiny shack.
After you pick one Tom Nook tells you how to save, this is important or you'll get harassed by Mr. Resetti.  Mr. Resetti can and WILL yell at you for minutes upon minutes if you don't save, it's a big PITA!   When Tom Nook asks for money for the house you only have 1,000 bells, bells is the money that is used in the Animal Crossing universe,  then he says that it isn't enough and offers you a part time job in his little shop.  You basically do all the grunt work for him; making deliveries, doing advertising, work on the landscaping.  He also has you meet all the neighbors, I think you start out with 4, and Tortimer who's the mayor.  After you do all the jobs Nook using the money he was going to pay you to go towards your "loan."  It still won't be paid off, but he tells you that you can go fishing, catch bugs, and dig up fossils.  You just bring him what you caught and he'll pay you for them.  Fossil's have to be sent away to the Farway museum to be inspected.  (You can also take fishes, bugs, and fossils to the local museum to be donated.)   You can take the bells that you earn to buy furniture, clothes, other tools, and pay off loans, to make your house larger.

That's the gist of Animal Crossing.   I've owned and played every version except for the Wii one.  (Only because I have never owned a Wii)

Cool Runnings

Hey guys,

I actually watched "Cool Runnings" last night.  It was one of my favorites when I was a child.  This movie is hilarious, serious, inspirational, and is all around fun.  I actually forgot all about this movie, until I visited Amazon.com and it was a suggested product for me.  I, of course, ordered it.  I think that the one thing that stood out for me was that it didn't have the traditional Disney sport movie ending.  Cool Runnings did NOT medal at the olympics and their final run was disastrous.  I don't want to ruin the ending for anybody who hasn't seen it yet, but I was terrified watching the ending now as an adult.  It was sad as a child, but not nearly as sad as it was last night.  (Darn, adult hormones.)  I took a picture of the DVD on my Instagram account.

Hello,

I was thinking about this a couple of weeks back.  Do you have any movies that you absolutely loved when you were younger, but when you watched them in recent times you realized how horrible they are?   Or has the opposite happened, and you still love them as much now as you did as a child?

Summer Camp

I almost forgot about this classic Nickelodeon show, I found out that they had a reunion last year at Comikaze.  It was about a group of kids and the mischief that they caused while away at summer camp.  I'll dive deeper into the show on my next blog.  But before I leave here is a clue.

UPDATE:  I haven't had a chance to rewatch the show yet, but I'm going to really soon.  *sorry*

Upcoming Halloween

Hey, I know that it has been a very long time since I've posted.  Life has kept me very busy!  It is already October 19, which means that it is almost Halloween.  It used to be one of my favorite celebrations as a kid, mainly because it just meant that you could ran around all over town and get high off of sugar.  Honestly, what kid wouldn't love that.  I'm going to write a more in depth post about this soon.

More thoughts of Hey Dude: Season 1

After my initial excitement of actually getting to watch this series again, I put it away and haven't really watched it again until recently.  The nostalgia of it is still makes my heart patter, but now I'm watching it without my rose colored glasses.

I can say that at the time that this originally aired there really wasn't anything else like it on the air.  A bunch of kids working a summer job on a dude ranch, mind you they literally spent the whole summer at the Bar None Ranch away from their families.  Yes, by today's standards the acting is horrible and cheesy.  You would think that working on a Dude Ranch, there would be a lot of excitement and action.  Most everything was toned down, possibly because they didn't want the actors getting hurt?

Most of season 1 featured Brad and Ted arguing and tension between the sexes.  One episode even featured a boys vs girls competition.  They were on a DUDE RANCH, and the coolest thing we get it an obvious calm horse, trying to act wild while Brad calms him down to ride.  On the note of Brad, I have never heard of a girl named Bradley.

I don't think that this show would stand a chance by today's standards, but by 1989's it was alright.

SIDE NOTE:  I'm thinking of getting season 2.

A whole year older!

Well, I'm older now then I was  the last time that I have posted.  I had a great birthday, thanks everyone!

Do you guys have any birthday traditions?  I only had to birthday parties growing up, one was when I was in 2nd grade and the other was when I was in 5th grade.  The one I had in 5th grade was pretty awesome, we had a half day of school and we had a field trip to the circus.  Heck yes!!!  I had 4 or 5 friends over and we stayed up all night, played power rangers, circus, and poker.  We did have one kid who fell asleep, so we tortured her by putting bumble balls, remember those?, in her sleeping bag.  I don't think I have any pics of the actual party though.  Dang, times before cell phones, digital cameras/ camcorders.

We put 2 bumble balls in her sleeping bag, one lesson she learned is that if the birthday girl and everybody else is staying up all night long, then so are you!!  They might look soft, but they were hard and hurt if they bumped you wrong.  Man, I was evil!!!!

AHHHH...... Sorry!

I know, I've been bad.  I haven't updated in a month!  I'm sorry, I've just been so busy with work and school.  I will update again soon, I promise.

It's almost my birthday, which means  one thing ZOO!!!!!

My next post will be about all the wonderful adventures you can have at the zoo.  As a bonus, here's a pic of a giraffe <3

CLUE

This is another fun board game that my sister and I used to play, we usually played it at our grandma's house.

If you've never played before it's a simple game.  Where you each pick a character and try to figure out the murderer, the weapon they used, and which room they were in.  I really can't remember exactly how to play, it's been YEARS!  I'll have to dig up the game, I think we might have it somewhere.  Anyway,  before you start playing you put in an envelope one card of a person, room, and weapon.  Then  when you make it to a room you just guess who did it.  For example,  Professor Plum, in the conservatory, with the rope.  And if anybody had those cards they'd lay them out and everybody would cross them off their lists.  Until you have all but one of each category crossed off.  Then when you know, you make your guess.  I'm thinking you have to go to a certain room to make your guess, but I'm really fuzzy at the details.

I'm going to tell a story about one ridiculously funny time that we played. We, my sister, cousin, and I, were upstairs at first we were playing hide and go seek, but it quickly got boring and we got in lots of trouble for running in the house.  My cousin found Clue and suggested that we play it.  We had a couple of successful rounds.  It was getting late and thought that we would have enough time for one more round.  We literally just got started.  I think we had the envelope put together and just distributed the cards, when my grandma yelled up the stairs that my dad was here,  then my cousin quickly made a guess and he was 100% right.  That made a long game quick, lol.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie

I have very mixed feelings about this movie, and did since I was small.  I watched it in the movie theatre and bought it at K-mart the day it came out on VHS.  I know that I have touched this movie a little bit before.

Even though Jason, Trini, and Zack weren't in this movie I was still super excited to see it.  I'll start off with the things I didn't like about this movie.  (Please keep in mind that this is my opinion)

1.)  The name of it.  Really they couldn't have gotten any more creative then  Mighty Morphin Power Rangers:  The Movie.

2.)  The costume's. I know that a lot of people liked them.  I thought they looked cheap and to be perfectly honest dumb.  I know Saban had a bigger budget and didn't use stock footage, but still.....

3.)  Zedd and Rita, I'm sorry but I thought that they should've been in it much more.

4.)  The death and then revival of Zordon, I still don't get it.  I understand out of his chamber he can't survive, but how the heck did they bring him back to live!  I know somebody will more than likely enlighten me on this.

5.)  The zords looked horrible, I haven't actually watched this movie in a long time, but once again even as a child I thought they looked really fake and too computerized.


What I did like about this movie.

1.)  The action.

2.)  Dulcea, as I was a young girl at this time it was nice to have a really strong female.

4.)  Adam's one liners.  "I'm a frog."  "Welcome, to Jurassic Park."

5.) I did like the Fred story line also.  It was nice to know what was going on in Angel Grove, while the Rangers were on Phados.

6.)  When the show went back on television they had to basically redo the whole movie to incorporate Kakuranger footage.  Which I don't mind at all because Kakuranger is one of my favorite of the  Super Sentai.


Overall, this wasn't a bad movie.  It was cheesy like the television show, but with a bigger budget and didn't use had Japanese stock footage. I might watch it again after typing this.

MMPR VHS

I went downstairs at my mom's house to see if I could find anything from my childhood.  Unfortunately, most of my stuff is long gone.  I did find some of my old Power Ranger tapes.  I used to have a ton of them and both movies, so I don't know where the rest are at.  If you were like me though, you probably spent countless hours watching the guys put evil in its place.

Just wanted to let everybody know that I have some VHS tapes of my favorite show in the basement.  I'm so excited.  I'm going to take pictures and do a real blog soon.

Super Mario Land

When I got my GameBoy for Christmas, I also got Super Mario Land.  My GameBoy didn't come with a game, while my sister's came with Tetris.  I was stocked, I love Mario!  The game is basically a classic platformer, with new enemies and bosses.  (Bowser wasn't in this game, and you were try to save Daisy not Princess Toadstool)

Even though I loved this game, I never was able to beat the final boss.  I downloaded the game to my 3DS and I finally beat it!  Mission Accomplished.  But the payoff wasn't that satisfying.

I bet you all know where this is going.  Yes, I was an avid All That fan.  I just watched some sketches on YouTube and they are still hilarious.  Lori Beth and Katrina were my favorites by far. (girl power)  Although I do love all of the original cast.  My favorite reoccurring sketches were, Baggin Saggin Barry, Cooking  with Randy and Mandy, Lemonade Scammer,  Good Burger, Super Dude, Detective Dan, Island girls, Miss Fingerly, the loud Librarian, and Vital Information.  I guess it would've been easier for me to list my least favorites.  I was so in love with the show, there is a cassette tape out in the universe somewhere that my sister and I do our own versions of our favorite skits.  I sure hope that tape doesn't wind up in the wrong hands, lol.

Yesterday I was looking up Katrina Johnson on YouTube and was surprised to find out that there was a All That reunion at  Comikaze Expo just a few months ago.  So needless to say I nerded all over the place watching the Comikaze footage and remembering the good ole days.  I'm still waiting for it to make it on DVD, so I can really watch it!

And yes, they did have a catchy theme song!  (I'm starting to realize that most shows I watched did and got stuck in my head forever and ever and EVER!)

SPLAT!

When I was around 10 or so this game came out.  My cousins brought it over to a family get together, and we literally played all day long. You made bugs with bugamatic using play doh and the object of the game was to get from start to finish without getting squished by a giant hand.  You played with cards.  The cards had different colored backgrounds and whoever was on that color got SPLAT!!! It was so much fun.  Then that Christmas I got surprised with a my very own edition of the game.  

As you can tell, I was very excited to get it.  Maybe a little too excited.  But in its day it was very creative game, or maybe I was a little easily impressed.  The marketing for it was brilliant and impressive for its time.
