Clarissa Explains it All

I got season 1, all 13 episodes, from my sister.  When I was younger I was obsessed with this show.  I absolutely loved everything about it, except Ferguson.  Now watching it again as an adult, I still enjoyed it very much.  I was actually surprised about how much I remembered about the show.  For those of you who never watched the show,  SHAME ON YOU!!!  I'll try to explain it, pun intended.   Clarissa is a young teen explaining her life.  Her parents are decent and stand up citizens, her father is an architect and her mother works at a children's museum.  She has a younger brother, Ferguson, who tries to make her life a living hell.  She also has a best bud named Sam, he enters Clarissa's room by coming through the window on a ladder.

Clarissa is at that age when she's trying to find her identity, which explains her crazy outfits and trying just about anything.  (This show was not about sex and drugs, you know what I mean)  She often made video game programs to explain how she was going to get out of a situation or how she plans to get her way.  I'm now wondering if Clarissa Darling is a using her wild imagination to make computer programs or video games.

This show was popular in its original run, I believe it was also one of programs of the original SNICK.  Back to the DVD.  I like it a lot, of course, but a few things did bug me.  For instance most of the photos they used on the actual package and DVD's were from later seasons.  (I do think the cover art was from the 1st season, but don't quote me on that.)   When the catchy theme song came on the beginning of every episode it too was from a later season.  Except for one episode on the second dvd, it did have the original opening.

I wish that I had a camera to take a photo of this amazing dvd set, but alas somebody decided to steal mine.  I think you can look it up an amazon.com.  I would recommend buying this set, especially if you were a fan of this show or the old Nickelodeon.

I'm not responsible if this song gets stuck in your head, lol

Suprise gift!

My sister bought me the first season of a show that I very much loved from my childhood.  I actually had no idea that it was released.  I'm going to try to watch it later and do a review of it.  I hope it's as good as I remember it to be.  I'll talk to you'll later.

Game shows for children

Somebody posted a picture on facebook and it was really nostalgic for me.  I remember watching this show on PBS almost everyday.  I got some answers wrong, some answers right, it was fun, it was challenging, and it had a live acapella band.  That's right, I'm talking about "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego."  As I'm typing the theme and ending song is playing in my head.    This was a point in time when learning and being smart was cool.  I don't think there is a decent game show geared for children out today.  (Of course I could be wrong.  I don't have cable now.)  I also found this morning that some episodes are on youtube.

DO IT ROCKAPELLA!!!!!

p.s. I didn't get into the animated series on Fox Kids, or Where in time is Carmen Sandiego

Injuries

I recently about broke my arm, I apologize for the lack of updates.   It got me thinking about an injury I got as a young child.  This happened when I was 5.

My dad and I were playing soccer inside the house, which was a no-no.  Anyway, I always played goalie. I stopped the ball with my foot and slid off landing on my arm.  I wanted to be brave like my hero, Kris Peat, who was a goalie of a local professional team.  But I couldn't, I started to bawl my eyes out.  My dad waited until my mom got home with the car and took me to the hospital.  I ended up with a sprained arm and had to be in a stupid sling.  I think that was my worst injury as a kid, even though I'm VERY clumsy.

What has been your worst injury as a child?

Nickelodeon

I got a chance to watch a little Nickelodeon at my mom's house the other day, and boy did it suck! I know that everything changes, and I'm fine with change. Do I feel bad for kids these days? I have a question for you. What was your favorite Nickelodeon show growing up?

I liked Rocko's Modern Life, all the SNICK shows, Salute Your Shorts, and GUTS. (Just to name a few)

P.S. I always wanted to visit Nickelodeon Studios, but sadly we can't anymore. As it was sold, and the Blue Man Group perform there now.

Favorite Toy

Did you have a favorite toy that you saved your money up to buy?

I remember really wanting a skip it when I was about to turn 8.  I asked for one for my birthday, and when I didn't get it.  I was so upset and saved my birthday money and did extra work around the house to get it.  A couple weeks later I went to K-mart and bought a yellow skip it.  (They only had yellow and pink.  I HATED pink when I was yonger.)  I remember being really excited about it.   Literally a few minutes after we pull up the drive way, my grandmother who missed my birthday came over.  Her present to me, a pink skip it.  Needless to say, at first I was disappointed because now I had two skip its.  What was I supposed to do with that?  To be honest though when my friends came over it was nice to have two of them.    I'm glad that skip its are still around. My cousin who's 10 now has one too.   Yes, I played with it, lol.

For those of you who don't know what a skip it is.  Watch the video below, they are so much fun.

TURBO

Power Rangers Turbo.  I remember the excitement I had when I first saw the trailer on tv. "OMG!  Jason and Kimberly are back!"  I remember when we got done watching the movie how awesome it was.  Rocky was finally gone, they had a female pirate for their new enemy, they had awesome car zords.  Then I watched it not to long ago and realized that it sucks butt!  It is complete crap, the little kid was annoying.  Dinosaurs are way cooler than cars. The only cool part, for me, was that Jason and Kimberly came back.  I still like this movie better than the first. (My personal opinion)

Here's a funny anecdote. I saw this in the movie theatre, during spring break.  My younger sister and I begged our grandma to take us to it.  Luckily our spring break was a week before the city kids, so the theatre was pretty empty.  Except for a handful of kids around our age.  We acted like we weren't seeing power rangers, and so did all the other kids. But what was funny was that we ALL ended up seeing the Power Rangers movie.
